How to Make a 4-Fold Pocket from One Sheet of Cardstock

A simple one-page wonder for your junk journal or memory book

Looking for a quick and creative way to add functional beauty to your journal? This 4-fold pocket is made using just one 8½" x 11" piece of cardstock and gives you four unique tuck spots—perfect for tags, notes, ephemera, or journaling cards. Whether you're a seasoned junk journaler or just getting started, this easy tutorial is a fun way to use what you have and make something special.

✂️ Supplies Needed:

📖 Instructions:

Step One: Prep Your Printable

  • Print the main pocket page and tag page onto white cardstock.

  • For a finished look, print the coordinating parchment paper design on the back of the blue sunflower page and the tag sheet

  • Fussy cut any ephemera pieces you want to use

  • Lightly ink the edges of each piece with distress ink to give it a vintage or grungy touch.

Step Two: Fold the Base

  • Take the blue sunflower cardstock page and fold it in half lengthwise (hot dog style).

  • Fold it in half again.

  • And then fold it one more time to create a four-panel accordion-style pocket.

Step Three: Cut & Punch

  • On the two outer sections (leftmost and rightmost folds), trim off about 1½" from the top.

  • Use a 1" circle punch to add notches to the top of the center two panels—this makes it easier to grab the tags inside.

Step Four: Decorate & Assemble

  • Decorate your tags and slide them into each pocket section.

  • Add embellishments to the front panels if you'd like—think lace, washi, labels, or stickers!

  • Secure the entire folded piece with ribbon, Velcro, or a button if you want a closure.

  • Add it directly into a junk journal as a flip-out or glue one side down to create a hidden surprise.
