Boldly to the Throne: Finding Grace in Every Moment
"Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
Have you ever felt like you needed to clean yourself up before coming to God?
Maybe your week has been full of distractions, frustrations, or failures. Maybe you've said something you shouldn't have, ignored someone in need, or just felt far from God's presence. When those moments come, the enemy is quick to whisper, “You’re not worthy. God doesn’t want to hear from you like this.” But Hebrews 4:16 boldly reminds us of the opposite truth: we are invited—just as we are—to come confidently to the throne of grace.
This verse doesn't say, "Get your act together and then come." It says, “Come with confidence”. Why? Because our confidence is not in ourselves. It’s in Jesus. Just a few verses earlier, the writer of Hebrews explains that we have a great High Priest—Jesus—who understands our weaknesses. He’s been tempted in every way, just like us, yet remained without sin. He knows what it’s like to be tired, misunderstood, lonely, and in pain. He gets it.
Because of Jesus, the throne isn’t a place of judgment—it’s a place of mercy and grace.
Think about that. The throne of the King of Kings isn’t closed off by red ropes or guarded by heavenly bouncers. It’s open. Accessible. And not just for the “perfect people” (as if such people exist), but for you and me—ordinary, imperfect people who need extraordinary grace.
We’re told to come for two reasons: to receive mercy and to find grace to help us in our time of need.
Mercy is God not giving us the punishment we deserve.
Grace is Him giving us the strength and blessings we don’t deserve.
……And both are poured out freely at His throne.
No matter what you're carrying today—worry, guilt, fear, exhaustion—you don’t have to carry it alone. You don’t have to fix it all first. You can bring it all to Him, lay it down, and find the help you need.
So today, come boldly. Come broken. Come honest. Come in faith. Your Father is waiting, not to shame you—but to love you, restore you, and strengthen you.
Reflection Questions:
What has been holding you back from coming boldly to God in prayer?
When was a time you truly experienced God’s grace or mercy in your life?
How can you create space in your day to come to the “throne of grace” with confidence?
Closing Prayer:
Father,
Thank You for opening the door wide for me to come into Your presence. Thank You for Jesus, who understands my weakness and invites me to come boldly—not in shame, but in faith. Help me to remember that Your throne is a place of mercy and grace, not fear or condemnation. When I feel unworthy or distant, remind me that You are near, and You are always ready to help.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
