Crafted by God’s Spirit - Scripture Challenge/Day Two
“and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold and silver and bronze”
As I continue the May Scripture Writing Challenge with a focus on Worship, I’m beginning to see just how deeply creativity and worship are woven together. This journey isn’t just about memorizing Scripture—it’s about reflecting on God’s truth and responding with our whole selves. Today’s verse from Exodus reminds me that God doesn’t just call us to create—He equips us by His Spirit. In the story of Bezalel, I see a reflection of how the Lord desires to use our creative gifts for holy purposes, and how worship can happen with a paintbrush just as powerfully as with a song.
In this part of Exodus, Moses is speaking to the Israelites as they prepare to build the Tabernacle—the sacred dwelling place of God among His people. But this wasn’t just a construction project; it was a holy calling. And God chose a man named Bezalel, from the tribe of Judah, to lead the creative charge.
Bezalel wasn’t chosen because of his resume or reputation. He was chosen because God filled him with His Spirit, equipping him with everything he would need to carry out the work: skill, intelligence, knowledge, and craftsmanship. These were Spirit-given abilities, designed for a divine purpose—to create something beautiful that would glorify God and serve His people.
This part of Bezalel’s story is both humbling and encouraging. It reminds us that when God calls us to create, He also equips. He doesn't just hand us a task and expect us to figure it out alone. Instead, He breathes life into our creativity and blesses the work of our hands when our hearts are surrendered to Him.
A Creative Life Led by the Spirit
I find so much comfort in knowing that God doesn’t just tolerate our creativity—He celebrates it. He designed us to be creative, and when we offer our talents back to Him, it becomes an act of worship.
Maybe you’ve never thought of your crafting, your painting, your journaling, your homemaking—even your doodling—as Spirit-led. But when your hands and heart are surrendered to God, your creativity becomes sacred. Just like Bezalel, we are called to use what we’ve been given to reflect the beauty and holiness of the Lord.
God is still filling His people with wisdom, skill, and artistic vision—because there is still Kingdom work to be done. And it may just begin with the paintbrush in your hand, the journal on your table, or the quiet time you carve out each morning.
Reflection Questions:
Have you ever invited the Holy Spirit into your creative process?
What unique skills or gifts has God given you that can use for His glory?
How can you create today in a way that reflects His beauty and love?
I hope today’s verse encourages you to see your own creativity as Spirit-filled and sacred. Whether you're painting, journaling, sewing, or simply finding beauty in the everyday, your hands can be instruments of worship.
Let’s keep writing Scripture and creating with intention this month—trusting that the same Spirit who filled Bezalel is still at work in us today. And don’t forget: every stroke, stitch, or word written in love can become an offering of worship to our Creator.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the reminder that I am not creating alone. Just like You filled Bezalel with wisdom and skill, fill me with Your Spirit. Help me to see my creativity as a calling and an offering. Use the work of my hands to point others to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
