The Work of Our Hands - Scripture Challenge - Day 5
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”
It’s Day 5 of the May Scripture Writing Challenge, and today’s verse is one I hold close to my heart—especially as a maker. Psalm 90:17 is a prayer for God’s blessing to rest on what we do and create, not for our own recognition, but for His glory. I created a simple graphic of two hands forming a heart as a reminder that the work of our hands—whether crafting, journaling, serving, or creating—is most meaningful when it flows from love and points others to the Lord.
This verse is found at the end of a psalm written by Moses—a man who understood hard work, leadership, and the need for God's help. His prayer is simple but powerful: that God would establish the work of our hands. That word "establish" means to give it meaning, purpose, and permanence.
In a world that often celebrates hustle and self-made success, it’s refreshing (and humbling) to remember that we don’t work for applause—we work for the Lord. Whether we’re creating art, raising children, running a business, or simply offering a kind gesture, when we invite God into the process, He brings lasting value to what we do.
Our hands are tools for ministry. They can serve, comfort, build, bless, and create beauty that honors our Creator. When we surrender our efforts to Him, our ordinary work becomes extraordinary.
So today, lift your hands—your paint-stained, busy, calloused, or quiet hands—and ask God to bless the work they do.
🌿 Reflection Questions:
Do I invite God into the creative work of my hands each day?
In what ways can I use my talents to serve rather than to seek attention?
How does knowing God can establish my work change the way I approach it?
Whether you’re creating something big or small today, remember—your hands were made to glorify God. Let your work reflect His love, His beauty, and His purpose. When we place our creativity in His hands, He makes it matter in ways we can’t even imagine.
