Bless the Lord, O My Soul - Scripture Challenge - Day 7
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!”
We’ve made it to Day 7 of our Scripture Writing Challenge—what a joy it’s been to spend a week soaking in verses about worship and praise! I pray that by now, you’ve noticed a shift in your heart as you’ve carved out time each day to focus on God’s goodness. Today’s verse, Psalm 103:1, is a personal call to worship. It reminds us that sometimes we have to tell ourselves to praise—even when we don’t feel like it. Worship isn’t just a response; it’s a choice to focus all that is within us on the One who is always worthy.
Psalm 103 opens with David commanding his own soul to bless the Lord. This isn’t a quiet suggestion—it’s a wholehearted decision to praise. “Bless the Lord, O my soul” is a reminder that worship begins from the inside out. Our circumstances might not always inspire praise, but the character of God always does.
David doesn’t stop at the soul—he says, “all that is within me.” That means every thought, every emotion, every ounce of strength is called into this act of adoration. It’s not just singing a song; it’s aligning our entire being in reverence to His holy name.
Sometimes, praise has to be preached to ourselves. Especially on the hard days when joy feels distant or we’re too weary to worship. But those are the moments when praise becomes the most powerful. It lifts our eyes off our problems and sets them back on the One who never changes.
Worship isn't about how we feel—it's about who He is. And He is holy, faithful, and always near. When we bless the Lord with “all that is within us,” we’re surrendering our whole selves to the One who is completely worthy.
As you reflect today, speak directly to your soul—just like David did. Remind yourself of God's faithfulness, His love, His mercy. Let every part of you respond in praise. Whether whispered through tears or shouted with joy, your worship blesses the heart of God.
Reflection Questions:
When was the last time you spoke directly to your soul and encouraged yourself to worship?
What part of your life do you find hardest to surrender in praise?
How can you bless the Lord “with all that is within you” today?
