Created to Create - May Scripture Challenge/Day 1

Each May, the world around me bursts into color—flowers bloom, birds sing, and creativity seems to awaken everywhere. This year, I felt a stirring in my heart to do the same. I started this Scripture Writing Challenge as a personal commitment to be in God’s Word every single day—not out of obligation, but out of a desire to grow closer to Him. Writing Scripture helps me not only to memorize His truth, but also to reflect and respond creatively. Whether through journaling, painting, or crafting, this daily rhythm invites me to worship with both my heart and my hands. It’s a way to stay rooted in the Word while embracing the gifts God has placed within me.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
— Genesis 1:1 (ESV)

May Scripture Challenge - Day One

The very first thing God reveals about Himself in Scripture is that He is a Creator. Before He is named as Father, Redeemer, or even Lord—He is the One who creates. This is not by accident. God wanted us to know from the very beginning that His nature is imaginative, intentional, and infinitely creative.

And because we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27), we too are created to create.

That doesn’t just mean painting masterpieces or writing poetry (though those are beautiful gifts). It means partnering with God to bring beauty, order, meaning, and purpose into the world—just like He did in the beginning. We create when we make a home, nurture a child, sing a song, design a journal page, or offer a handmade gift to someone in need.

But our creativity was never meant to exist apart from worship.

Creativity and worship go hand in hand. Worship isn’t just music or church services—it’s how we live, how we love, and how we respond to God’s goodness. When we use our creativity to glorify Him, whether through art, acts of service, or quiet reflection, we echo the very heart of our Creator.

You were made to worship. You were made to create. And both of these truths begin with God.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How do you express your creativity in your everyday life?

  2. Have you ever thought of your creative gifts as a form of worship?

  3. What can you create today that honors the God who made you?

If you’ve ever felt the tug to spend more intentional time with God or wished for a way to blend faith and creativity, this challenge is for you. You don’t need to be an artist or a theologian—just a heart that’s willing to show up. Whether you’re journaling in the margins of your Bible, doodling a verse on a sticky note, or creating something beautiful from your quiet time, every moment in the Word is an act of worship. I’d love for you to join me this month as we write Scripture, grow in our faith, and honor the One who created us to create.

Father, thank You for being the ultimate Creator. You shaped the heavens, formed the stars, and yet You also designed me with intention and beauty. Help me see my creativity as a gift from You and use it as a way to worship and serve others. Teach me to reflect Your heart through everything I make. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
